Return trip to China builds business connections for Northeast Indiana

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Sept. 15, 2011 - For the third consecutive year, John Sampson, president and CEO of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership (NEIRP) will join the state-led trade mission to Asia.

This year's delegation, made up of Hoosier business leaders and elected officials is being led by Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman. Sampson will be joining the group for their visit in Hangzhou, then proceed to Taizhou.

In Taizhou, Sampson will advance a variety of relationships currently being built between the Region and this key city within Indiana's sister-state of Zhejiang Province. The trip is scheduled September 18 - 24.

"As opportunities for economic development become more global, we as a region must expand our relationships well beyond our borders to maintain a competitive advantage. Business and community leaders in Taizhou are similarly interested in developing ties on a global basis. They realize Northeast Indiana has a great deal to offer for business investment, particularly when it comes to innovation and education," said Sampson.

This visit is a follow-up to the Taizhou delegation visit to Indiana, which took place last summer. This is the Partnership's third trade mission to China and 10th international business development trip since inception in 2005.

The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership (NEIRP) was created in 2006 to help build a globally competitive economy in Northeast Indiana through business development, capacity building and job growth. In 2010, Vision 2020 was formed under the umbrella of the Partnership to build the capacity of the region in five key areas: 21st Century Talent, Competitive Business Climate, Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure and Quality of Life. By combining business development efforts with capacity building, NEIRP has the tools needed to leverage the region's current attributes and build future strength.
