News from the Commissioners 7/11
Monthly letter to the editor from the Whitley County Commissioners - June, 2011
The Commissioners have been taking advantage of the great weather and visiting 15 of our County Businesses with our Economic Development Director Alan Tio.
Travelling from Churubusco to South Whitley, we have been so impressed with the innovation of our businesses and the dedication of their employees. Whitley County is very fortunate that the majority of our businesses even in this economy are in a growth mode and looking to expand in Whitley County for many reasons, ranging from quality of available employees, ease of working within our Planning and Building Department, and accessibility of our EDC and Officials to explore incentives.
Wind Energy is the issue that is before us requiring a significant part of our time in the office and at home. We welcome any comment or concern that you may have as we gather information and sort out the facts in considering the impact for the residents of Whitley County.
At this time of the year the Commissioners wrap up the Department head evaluations, and as we look back with the employees and their goals and accomplishments, we as Administrators realize how fortunate we are with the experience and dedication of our employees.
The decision to use Parkview as our Emergency Services provider was decided and for the first time in recent years an alternative was presented. The presentation of the alternative gave us an opportunity to compare and study the services that we fund. Part of the agreement was that we would form an oversight committee to assure that Parkview has an understanding of the expectations of the County and its residents in addition to monitoring its success.
All in all it has been a very productive month and we look forward to budget negotiations.
