EDC recognizes architects of economic success

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (September 24, 2012) – Continuing the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the EDC recently recognized five industries for their contributions to Whitley County’s economic development efforts at an event held at Joseph Decuis Farm in Whitley County.

“Over the course of the year, we have celebrated the longstanding commitment of this community to our local economic development efforts,” said EDC President Alan Tio, “With this recognition we are turning the spotlight on industry pillars that have made substantial contributions to our economic success.”

The five inaugural “Whitley County Architects” are: 80/20 Inc., C&A Tool Engineering Inc., Micropulse Inc., Steel Dynamics Structural Steel & Rail Division, and Ultra Electronics-USSI.

Each of these companies has worked with the EDC to support numerous significant investments at their respective Whitley County facilities. These companies now collectively have more than 2,000 employees, which represents 15% of total employment in Whitley County.

“Over the past 15 years we expanded five times and grown from 63,000 square feet to over 250,000 square feet and reached 350 wonderful employees,” said 80/20 Founder and CEO Don Wood, “it is a pleasure to receive this award and I am looking forward to future projects, to more expansions, and to adding more jobs in Whitley County”.

80/20 Expansion

Governor Mike Pence joined executives from 80/20 Inc., a t-slotted aluminum components and framing provider, today to announce the company’s plans to expand its headquarters here, creating up to 97 new jobs by 2016. The homegrown-Hoosier company, which designs and manufactures modular extruded aluminum framing for a variety of industrial and home-hobby applications, will invest $11 million to build an additional 31,000 square feet onto its existing 250,000 square-foot facility on its 38-acre Columbia City campus. Construction of the new addition, which will house a training auditorium and expanded office space, is expected to begin in April.
