Whitley County’s Top Employers Showcase at Business & Industry Open House

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (October 21 2011) – The Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and WorkOne Northeast (WorkOne) are hosting the first-ever Whitley County Business and Industry Open House, which will take place from 2:00-5:00PM on Thursday October 27th at Eagle Tech Academy, located at 107 North Walnut Street in Columbia City.

The event will showcase a number of new and growing Whitley County companies, so that community residents can learn more about the goods and services being produced in the local area. In addition, exhibiting companies are being asked to describe the skills required for jobs that are performed at their Whitley County operations.

“The Business & Industry Open House continues our theme of Moving Forward by highlighting more than a dozen new and growing Whitley County employers,” said EDC President Alan Tio, “The event is a unique opportunity for the local community to learn about employment opportunities at these companies or to simply to find out more about the interesting work being done by companies of all sizes in Whitley County.”

WorkOne, Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IPFW), and Ivy Tech Community College Northeast (Ivy Tech) will lead a series of breakout sessions describing resources available for continuing education, job searching, and career enhancement. Session topics and times are listed below. Pre-registration is not required, however seating is limited.

2:30 pm: Elevate your Career presented by Ivy Tech Community College & IPFW
3:30 pm: I've Got Skills presented by WorkOne Northeast
4:00 pm: Resume Development presented by WorkOne Northeast
4:30 pm: Interview Do's & Don'ts presented by WorkOne Northeast

"Ivy Tech Community College is committed to changing lives and making all of Indiana great by providing affordable education and training that aligned with the unique needs of its community,” said Assistant Director of Community Outreach Lisa Smith, “Our sessions will focus on the variety of degree and certification programs currently offered, the Corporate College and Open Enrollment training programs, as well as the selection of local classes offered in Columbia City.”
