The Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) works with regional and state partners to support and encourage our clients’ business development efforts. Whitley County continues to take a progressive approach to economic development, for instance creating and supporting one of the largest Tax Increment Finance (TIF) Districts in the State of Indiana.
Whitley County is located in Northeast Indiana, less than 20 miles from both Fort Wayne, the 2nd largest city in Indiana, and Warsaw, the orthopedics capital of the world. Whitley County companies enjoy access to over 50% of the nation's Customer, Industrial and Transportation Manufacturing bases within 600 miles.
Indiana has the lowest business costs and is considered the best state for business in the Midwest. Recently the state has eliminated the inventory tax and capped property taxes, and the state also has tax credits to encourage job creation, capital investment and R&D activities.

- EDC President achieves designation
Alan Tio, President of the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) recently earned the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), a national recognition that denotes a mastery of principal skills in economic development, professional attainment and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
"On behalf of the entire board, we are very proud of Alan's recent achievements." said EDC board chairman Steve Barcus, "This professional designation sets Whitley County apart within Northeast Indiana and provides a strategic advantage in economic development that can only be attributed to his hard work and efforts."

Former Ultra Electronics-USSI (“USSI”) president Roland Fritts was recently honored for his service and commitment to USSI and to Whitley County with a Special Resolution from the Indiana General Assembly. The Resolution was sponsored by State Representatives Kathy Heuer (R-83) and Dan Leonard (R-50), and State Senator Jim Banks (R-17).

Whitley County EDC President, Alan Tio was recently honored by the IPFW Department of Public Policy (formerly the Division of Public and Environmental Affairs) with the 2011 Distinguished Alumni award on April 27, 2011 at the annual Alumni & Graduation luncheon. Alan holds a graduate degree in public management (MPA) from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
