LARWILL, Ind. (December 6, 2016) – Local Whitley County business, Red Star Contract Manufacturing, Inc. announced plans to expand its operations in Larwill.
Red Star produces insert molding, product assembly, and prototyping services primarily for medical device manufacturing customers in California, Indiana, Michigan, and Texas. The company also designs and builds its own insert molding machines and injection molds, which can be customized for each application to deliver customer-specific products. Some of the custom products include: biopsy products, spine treatment products, and products for orthopedics including single use and reusable instruments.
Red Star purchased its facility at 1560 N. State Road 5 in Larwill back in 2011. With room to expand on-site, the company will grow its operations by adding a second facility for manufacturing and clean room packaging, tripling its manufacturing space and adding two new jobs.
“Having employees committed to quality and on time delivery has been the key to our success, which has blessed us with growth and afforded us the ability to expand our capabilities including ultrasonic welding and clean room packaging,” said Red Star President Scott Werstler, “A talented staff with expertise in many disciplines of manufacturing allows us to remain a vertically integrated company in control of all aspects of our manufacturing processes, providing our customers a single source provider with a short time to launch.”
Since locating in Whitley County in 2011, Red Star has participated in several small business programs at the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), was named ‘Supplier of the Year’ by Texas-based Vidacare Corporation, and was also named an ‘Indiana Company to Watch’ in 2014 by the Indiana Small Business Development Center.
“Red Star is just one more example of the small, but growing companies located along ‘Orthopedics Alley’ (U.S. 30) right here in Whitley County,” said Whitley County EDC President Jon Myers, “Scott is one of our homegrown entrepreneurs that competes in the global economy everyday, and we are proud that Red Star is a part of our community.”
Whitley County approved a 10-year tax abatement for real estate improvements for the project at the request of the Whitley County EDC.
“We are happy to be able to support local companies that are growing and creating jobs in our smaller communities like Larwill,” said Whitley County Council Chairman, Kim Wheeler.”
