COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (June 15, 2017) – The Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) invites you to join them at the EDC Summer Mishmash Event on Wednesday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at Chapman’s Taproom in Columbia City.
For more than 100 years, Whitley County natives have traveled home for Old Settler’s Days for gathering and fellowship. As part of Old Settler’s festivities, the EDC is inviting residents, visitors, job seekers, employers and anyone else interested, to stop by Chapman’s for networking and camaraderie.
“Our hope is that friends and family who are home during Old Settler’s will stop by and catch up with old friends, and learn about some of the great things going on throughout the county,” said EDC President Jon Myers.
One of the key drivers of talent attraction and population growth in communities continues to be quality of life. Labor availability is an important factor in attracting new business, but quality of life is important to the labor force. More often now, employers are thinking about, and asking the question, “What’s the culture like at our company, and what is life like for our employees when the workday ends?”
According to Pew Research Center, the millennial generation–roughly ages 20-36–surpassed baby boomers last year, and are the nation’s largest living generation, and largest generation in the U.S. labor force. By 2030, the millennial generation will make up 75 percent of the workforce. Why is that significant? This generation is changing the workplace in the way they prioritize work and life.
According to a study from Fidelity Investments, millennials would take an average pay cut of $7,600 if they could improve career development, find purposeful work, better work-life balance or a better corporate culture. A healthy work-life balance and quality of life go hand-in-hand–which millennials strongly value–but all generations want opportunities to enjoy life outside of work.
The EDC Mishmash event is not only a way to connect generations and locals together, it’s a way to invite individuals who are home visiting for fair week, or new visitors, to take part in a community event. The EDC wants to continue to provide opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with one another and enjoy the amenities here in Whitley County.
The EDC Mishmash event is open to everyone! If you have questions about the event, contact the EDC at 260-244-5506 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to see you there!
